This book answers the question of how Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generators (RTGs) are used in NASAs exploration of deep space, what has been their history, how they function, the market and governmental forces that drive their production and design, and what are many of the underlying technologies. It concludes by describing potential future missions and potential new RTGs. This book has chapters ranging between describing the complex and the simple, but it’s clear, understandable, and a good read. A few of the chapters are very specific about the field of thermoelectrics. Most chapters provide a larger context of the field of RTGs, from governmental forces, to market forces, to mission studies that drive RTG designs and thermoelectric developments.
