This Third Edition continues to focus on applications and interpretation of results from fitting regression models to categorical response variables.  A new co-author, Rodney X. Sturdivant, has been added and to reflect his research in assessing goodness-of-fit of random effects logistic regression models, expanded coverage of random effects models is new to this Third Edition.  The details of specifying, fitting, testing, evaluating, and interpreting the results of these models are presented.  Sections dealing with more advanced topics have been expanded to include new developments, and new topical coverage is also provided, including: Bayesian logistic regression; confidence interval estimation of logit and logistic probability; spline functions to model non-linearly scaled continuous covariates; the LASSO method of selecting covariates; methods to compare fitted models such as BIC and AIC; graphical presentation of a fitted logistic model; and random effects and multilevel and hierarchical models.  Many new data sets have been added to illustrate the presented methods and to provide data for the exercises, including a rich data set from the American Burn Association as well as new data from an international study on an osteoporosis treatment in women.  The choice of topics in the book is strongly influenced by what can be easily performed with little additional programming in current statistical software such as R, SAS, STATA, BUGS, SYSTAT, BMDP, EGRET, and GLIM.
