This book focuses on the economic impacts and benefits that microgrids can bring to the future low-carbon electricity grid. It starts with an engineering economics perspective on investment decisions and capital expenditure analysis required for the economic assessment of microgrids projects. Next, economic concepts and models for minimizing microgrids’ operations cost, including the cost of local generation resources and energy purchase from the main grid to supply local loads, are introduced. Afterward, economic models for expansion of microgrids under load and market price uncertainties are presented. Finally, the economics of resilience in microgrids for optimal operations of these systems during outages and power disturbances is presented.
