图书简介
Holistic or person-centred practice is a compelling vision for healthcare practice. However, there are numerous barriers to realising holistic practice as a lived reality, and so the focus of this book is to enable practitioners, organisations, and educators to either realise or enable others to realise holistic practice. This book takes a different perspective to many of the person-centred care texts currently available in the market, building on the previous 1994 publication that conceptualised the, at the time, radical, Burford Nursing Development Unit Model (9780632038862). The model is grounded in practitioners collective holistic vision and the development of five systems to enable the vision to be driven by leadership within communities of learning. The goal is to illuminate how holistic practice can be practically and meaningfully achieved, using the Burford model as an exemplar. The model is reflective in nature, drawing on the authors extensive work on reflective practice. Why a new edition instead of a new title? Chris published a paper with the Global Academy of Holistic Nursing this year in which he discussed the book. There was significant interest in the text (which we no longer stock), which tracks with our strong performance in the person-centred area, and were approaching the 30th anniversary of its publication, which we can use in promotional material. A new edition would prove valuable to the field not least for its historical context (Chris, Brendan McCormack and Jan Dewing were only just embarking on their person-centred pursuits at the time, in Oxfordshire no less), but also draws on the authority of our bestselling Reflective Practitioner text and our bestselling Person-centred Practice text, with both authors being involved. The original title is unnecessarily niche, so we’re looking for a new title that distil the purpose more clearly (Working Title might still need some tweaking). The Burford NDU model name can be picked up in the web copy SEO, and our metadata can ensure anyone looking at the original edition online is directed to the new one.
