图书简介
This systematic survey of the processes and factors determining the weathering and erosion of rock minerals and soils begin by describing the physical, chemical, biological, and anthropogenic contributions to the weathering process. It goes on to discuss the formation of different types of landforms by weathering and erosion, and the role of hydrogeochemical processes in both surface water and groundwater. Careful consideration is given to the impact of extreme weather events and rising carbon dioxide levels on the speed and nature of erosion processes, as well their impact on soil and water quality. Throughout, modelling approaches are included for a quantitative understanding of weathering and erosion processes. The book includes case studies on the occurrence of heavy metals and other trace elements in groundwater due to weathering and erosion, addressing a growing issue for water quality in many regions of the world.
