In general, this is a good comprehensive resource for information about the clinical practice of ultrasound. Its cost and size limit its attractiveness to all but the most dedicated students of ultrasound, but practitioners and laboratories likely will be pleased with its comprehensive nature. The illustrations are limiting in some areas, but the important points generally come across even in those instances. Its scope is in many respects similar to the two-volume Diagnostic Ultrasound, 2nd edition by Rumack, et al. (Mosby, 1998). Some subjects are more comprehensively covered in the Rumack text, but there are subjects covered in the text reviewed here (skin, ocular, for example) that are not covered in Rumack. The British spellings and phraseology in this text may be troublesome to some, but shouldn’t be a significant issue to most readers. To owners of the first edition, significant updates in many areas, reflecting the newer ultrasound technologies, justify updating to the new edition.
