In 2019, car builder, designer and presenter of Wheeler Dealers, Ant Anstead, paid homage to the legendary 1930s Alfa Romeo 158 Grand Prix car (which went on to compete post-war until the early 1950s) by designing and building his own ’special’, which was documented in the 12-part Motor Trend TV series Ant Anstead Master Mechanic. This manual follows Ant’s TV build, based on a donor 1930s MG TC chassis, with running gear sourced from a 1970s Alfa Romeo Spider. Written in Ant’s own words, the engaging text explains how he designed the car and put it together, with numerous techincal drawings, sketches and photographs illustrating every step of the process. By its very nature a ’special’ is a one-off car, and should be bespoke for the indivitual builder, so this book is not a step-by-step ’how to’ book, but describes exactly how Ant built his own unique, bespoke car to suit his tastes and requirements, providing inspiration and guidance for anyone who wishes to follow his preferred path.
