图书简介
Thoroughly revised and expanded to reflect the latest developments in the field, Fundamentals of Queueing Theory, Fifth Edition presents the basic statistical principles that are necessary to analyze the probabilistic nature of queues. Rather than presenting a narrow focus on the subject, this update illustrates the wide-reaching, fundamental concepts in queueing theory and its applications to diverse areas such as computer science, engineering, business, and operations research.  This new edition reflects a numerical approach to understanding and making probable estimations relating to queues, with a comprehensive outline of simple and more advanced queueing models.  Each chapter provides a self-contained presentation of key concepts and formulae, allowing readers to work with each section independently, while a summary table at the end of the book outlines the types of queues that have been discussed and their results.  This new edition also features a reorganization of the introduction in an effort to be accessible to a broader audience.  The introduction now includes expanded qualitative/non-mathematical approaches to queueing theory as well as details about why it is useful to study and how it might be applied to real-world problems.  A refresher on stochastic processes has also been added, and the section on the simulation of queues has been expanded with more examples and exercises related to writing computer code to analyze queues.  Many readers may come across problems in practice for which the theory is not sufficient, so the author’s provide guidelines and examples for writing computer programs to simulate queues.  In addition, a new section on non-stationary fluid queues has been incorporated to address basic methods for handling non-stationary queues using a fluid approximation.  The appendices discuss transforms and function generation as well as the fundamentals of differential and difference equations. A related website includes problems that incorporate R, QtsPlus, and Excel software.
