The book provides a comprehensive overview of the most important advancements of the field of asymmetric organocatalysis that occurred within the last decade. Since then the field evolved very rapidly and many unique reactivities were identified. Furthermore, detailed mechanistic studies on reactions developed previously were performed providing new insights and better understanding of the activation concepts and mechanisms employed in asymmetric organocatalysis. A book providing a comprehensive summary of the field and identifying new directions of its further development is therefore needed and justified. The book presents valuable examples of new synthetic methodologies developed based on various organocatalytic activation modes. Special emphasis is given to strategies where organocatalysis is expanding its potential by pushing the boundaries and founding new synergistic interactions with other field of synthetic chemistry such as: i) metal catalysis, ii) photocatalysis, or iii) biocatalysis. Furthermore, the application of different concepts (such as vinylogy, dearomatization or cascade reactivity) resulting in the development of new functionalization strategies will be summarized and discussed.
