图书简介
Forensic science has captured the public imagination in the twenty-first century, as evidenced by the popularity of novels and television programs, such as CSI. At the same time, forensic science and its role in the criminal justice system has increasingly become the subject of critique from scholars in the fields of law and social science. In response, the international forensic science community has become more involved in the scrutiny of its own knowledge and practices in relation to criminal justice (not just scientific) objectives.

This book provides the first comprehensive overview of the emerging interdisciplinary field of ‘forensic studies’. It critically reviews existing research and scholarship on forensic science from a social and behavioural science perspective, while forging a blueprint for further work in this area. Moving beyond a discussion of forensic science as a suite of specialised scientific disciplines aimed at providing evidence to the courts, it offers a knowledge base for the development of ‘forensic literacy’ among a wide range of social actors in the social and criminal justice system. Core content includes: The history and development of forensic science, Public understanding of forensics and the ‘CSI effect’, The professionalization of forensics, Criminal and forensic investigation, Forensic intelligence, Behavioural approaches of forensics, Human Rights and forensics Forensics and technological innovation. This book will be of interest to students across criminology, sociology, law engaged with forensic science, psychology and the criminal justice process.
