This book makes biocatalysis more accessible to synthetic organic chemists especially those in the process chemistry industries. The first two chapters will focus on current topics within the applied industrial biocatalysis field. The remaining chapters will contain short experimental methods on novel biocatalytic transformations using new enzymes or new methodology using known enzymes. The chapters will be organized by reaction type and will include a short introductory section describing the current state of the art. The book will feature reactions that are making the enzyme toolbox available to chemists with detailed methodology and sourcing information of enzymes key information. The main 8 chapters will focus on processes for which the enzymes are readily available that will allow organic chemists to synthesize appropriate quantities of chemicals with available materials in a standard chemical laboratory. A few advanced methods will be included to present examples of new enzymes that might encourage collaboration with suppliers or academic groups and that will educate chemists of future possibilities. A section on available enzymes will be included with suppliers of enzymes invited to contribute information on their accessible products. This will enable chemists to access the changing market where enzyme suppliers have changed from using in house enzymes as a hook to tie in customers to their services and allow more chemists to try their own method development.
