The book introduces readers to the key classical location problems (covering, center, median, and fixed charge) that form the nucleus of facility location modeling.  Real world extensions of the basic models used in locating, including production and distribution facilities, interacting services and facilities, and undesirable facilities, are discussed. The book outlines a host of methodological tools for solving location models and provides insights into when each approach is useful and what information it provides.  This new edition features an expanded section on the taxonomy of location problems and models, which presents a simpler taxonomy that is based on the distance-metric used.  A new section on solving linear programming in Excel has been added, and new Excel problems have been added to the transportation section as well as the shortest path problem section.  The author’s own software (SITATION, MOD-DIST, and MENU-OKF), which was featured in the First Edition, remains in use in addition to the new Excel problems.  Additional new topics include integrated inventory and location models and reliability and facility location models.
