This book will follow on directly from Durr & Thomason’s (2010) book Biofouling (Wiley- Blackwell) which brought the literature in the field bang up to date. That book was a key review of the current boundaries, but contained only a table summarizing potential methods.   Conversely the aim of this proposed book, Biofouling Methods, is to be an essential companion to the former volume by providing a "cook book" full of practical recipes for those who are currently working in, or just entering, the biofouling field. The methods included in this new book will be for tried and tested techniques as well as those at the cutting edge. The methods will encompass the full diversity of the field and will give the user guidance in how, for example, to measure microbial fouling, to the data requirements for biocide registration, and everything in between. The book will be the single most comprehensive source of methods for workers in the field.   The book will be edited by three of the foremost international experts in biofouling, Dobretsov, Thomason and Williams who between them have over 60 years experience in the field, more than 120 publications and over 10 patents. One is an academic, one works in R&D in the world’s largest antifouling coatings company and one is a consultant to the antifouling industry.   Similarly, many of the chapter authors are acknowledged experts in their own speciality within the field and will be drawn from across industry and academia.
