The primary purpose of the Applied Mass Spectrometry Handbook is to provide an extensive library of methods used in connection with mass spectrometry. The hope is to provide the reader with a broad list of  methods used in various fields, so that the reader can get an appreciation for how widely used mass spectrometry and the power of techniques and all it variants. The first part of the book will cover the basics of mass spectrometry such as inlet systems, ion sources, mass analyzers, detectors, fragmentation, interpreting spectra, and the role of computers. The second part of the book, the heart of the book, will cover the applications. It will cover the most commonly used methods for each application and as many other as is reasonably possible in a book format. This will hopefully the educate reader by illustrating the diversity of approaches and perhaps spur new methods or uses.
