In recent years electronic devices using oxide semiconductor have been the focus of much attention, with polycrystalline materials generating huge commercial success. Transistors with an integrated oxide semiconductor have higher mobility than amorphous silicon transistors, and extremely off-leakage current. The use of crystalline IGZO including c-axis-aligned a-b-axis anchored crystalline In-Ga-Zn oxide (referred to as CAAC-IGZO), one ofDr Yamazakis own techniques, enables further scaling down, higher reliability, and process simplification of transistors. This original book introduces the application of a new class of oxide material that has made a major contribution to the field of thin film oxide semiconductors, particularly in the application of CAAC-IGZO to displays, and its ability to achieve high resolution with low power consumption. The applications described in this book focus on liquid crystal displays (LCD), incorporated into extremely low-power LCD mobile devices by the Sharp Corporation, organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays, high-resolution and flexible displays using the oxide semiconductor manufactured at the Semiconductor Energy Laboratory, and IDS driving, a technique that enables the display of a still image using a variable frame frequency, low frequency driver circuit, and low power consumption. A further two books in the series will describe the fundamentals of CAAC-IGZO, and the application to LSI devices.
