图书简介
This is the first monograph to deal comprehensively with the application of information theory to natural language and will thus be of interest for a heterogeneous target group. The general topic of the proposed monograph is the application of Information Theory to natural language semantics, in particular to lexical semantics and consequently, information theory will be embedded in a model of communication. The initial idea of the book is to point out that Shannon’s information theory can contribute to models of linguistic communication and lexical semantics, i.e., Shannonian information content of words is an important feature in language comprehension and interpretation. A further focus in this monograph will be put on the role of information theory in cognitive psychology, for instance w.r.t. Zipf’s principle of least effort. By presenting concrete applications of information theory in linguistics and in the field of semantics, the book aims to open up new scientific perspectives for the target groups.
