图书简介
Archaeology within a forensic framework is increasingly being used in a number of countries, whether it may be for the excavation of mass graves from conflict years or the excavation of a single clandestine burial from a homicide. The use of archaeology around the world is difficult to ascertain although the investigation of mass graves may reflect where archaeologists have been used. However, the practice of archaeology in general crime scene work away from humanitarian scenes is more difficult to perceive, as are our attitudes, methods, practice within different legal frameworks. There are however some individuals that may not see the value of using professional archaeologists, whilst some promote the discipline for forensic casework but do not find the right support. Moreover, the number of practicing forensic archaeologists is unknown throughout the world and this book aims to focus its attention on countries where the discipline is practiced. It may be that in some countries the use of archaeological principles, methods and theories, come under the field of anthropology, whilst in others it may be undertaken by police officers. This volume attempts to encompass the concept and practice of forensic archaeology in the different regions around the world, trying to capture the work currently undertaken in a number of countries whether for forensic purposes or humanitarian reasons. This book will be a timely volume and one of reference which is unique, where practitioners can see a network of professionals in the world, where politicians can see the value of archaeology and mass grave investigations for a number of reasons and where different experiences can only take the discipline forward. This volume will make an extremely significant contribution to the discipline of forensic archaeology and its standing as a discipline globally. In this volume, information is provided on a number of countries to establish the current trend in forensic archaeology. Establishing how archaeological techniques and archaeologists are employed throughout the world will allow the community to learn from each other and form the basis for exchanges and discussions on best practice.  In August 2012 the 1st European Meeting on Forensic Archaeology (EMFA) was held in The Hague, The Netherlands. The purpose of the meeting was primarily to discuss how forensic archaeology is organized and practiced in different countries. One outcome was that each country has different medico-legal frameworks in which archaeological techniques and archaeologists are involved in casework, for example the search, location and excavation of clandestine graves ranging from a grave with one individual to a mass grave. In this volume we aim to understand the following: - What is the legal framework in particular regarding the investigation of a crime scene?- Do forensic archaeologists exist? In which capacity? Where are they based?- Provide a background and brief history of used archaeological theory, principles and techniques at a crime scene.- If archaeologists are not used, are archaeological techniques, theories and principles used by other scientists/police staff?- What are the cases in which archaeological techniques are employed?- Is there a system of accreditation? National standards?- Are there any training opportunities?- In addition, we would be interested in knowing some background information on forensic archaeology in each country such as a few basic historical facts or milestones, whether specialized associations and academic course exist, the current state of the discipline, any special case studies.
