The book will cover large-scale applications of transition metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions in the chemical industry. Several well-known types of coupling reactions such as Suzuki-Miyaura (Nobel Prize 2010), Negishi (Nobel Prize 2010), Kumada-Corriu, Stille, enolate arylation, Sonogashira, Heck (Nobel Prize 2010), Hayashi-Miyaura, Tsuji-Trost allylation, carbonylation, cyanation, olefin metathesis, Buchwald-Hartwig amination, and Ullmann couplings are included. Case studies are presented that showcase project evolution from inception to early and late development, including commercial routes where applicable. Each case study will detail at least one transition metal-catalyzed cross-coupling step, with special emphasis on lessons learned from implementation of these couplings (e.g., process optimization, robustness, safety, product purification). The issue of metal removal to meet specifications and the different technologies available to accomplish this goal are also addressed. A small section on new technologies for cross-coupling that may have potential applications on large scale, such as nanocatalysis, microwave and flow chemistry, and green chemistry is included, too.
